This year’s work was wide ranging and varied – At THC Consult we have coached seasoned senior executives through reinvention. Guided the hiring process to fill senior roles while navigating disappointed internal competition. Advised Boards ahead of contentious hearings. Prepared executives across many professional sectors, for career-defining interviews. Guided senior leaders through Protected Disclosure minefields. Delivered training nationwide on everything from ‘Dignity at Work’ to ‘Immunity to Change’ mapping. Stood before entire staffs asking what ‘professionalism’ really means, why ‘boundary-setting’ is integral to discipline, order and flow in the workplace and why upskilling across the lifespan and sharing of knowledge are so important. Lectured p-t on the Masters in Leadership & Management at MIC/UL. Mediated between organisations and union representatives. Prepared documentation for clients ahead of WRC hearings. Shadowed clients trapped in indefinite administrative leave. Analysed legal evidence that professionals had missed, prompting review of judgments handed down. Protected intellectual property from contractual overreach while highlighting flawed tri-partite agreements which gave rise to the problem. Presented research at University of Galway. And asked uncomfortable questions about Communication, Collaboration, retaining Human Connection as AI impacts developing minds on The Handshake podcast.

The thread? Getting to the nub of what obstructs progress

A significant strand of my practice sits on the other side of the table — advising and coaching senior leadership teams, Boards, and HR functions when organisations face their most challenging people problems.

My success rate in this area is phenomenal. A legal mind complements and anchors my organisational psychology, coaching, and mediation expertise — enabling me to see what others miss, anticipate what’s coming, and guide leaders through terrain that would otherwise overwhelm them.

Troubled Staff Relations

When trust has broken down, factions have formed, and grievances are circulating — organisations need diagnostic clarity:
What’s actually driving this? I cut through the noise, identify root causes, and design interventions that address the real problem.

Disengaged Employees

Disengagement presents as absenteeism, passive resistance, quiet quitting, or corrosive cynicism. My approach combines validated diagnostic tools with qualitative inquiry that surfaces what staff won’t say in formal channels.

The Misuse of Protected Disclosures

The Protected Disclosures Act exists for vital reasons. But in practice, the mechanism is sometimes weaponised: deployed tactically in interpersonal disputes, used to circumvent performance management, or wielded to create institutional paralysis. I advise senior leaders on distinguishing genuine disclosures from tactical deployments, navigating procedural obligations, and rebuilding functional relationships.

Preparing for Contentious Meetings

I coach senior leaders and Board members ahead of formal hearings, grievance meetings, and encounters with complainants accompanied by Union officials and legal advisors. My role: ensuring leaders enter these encounters prepared, composed, and strategically clear — not blindsided, defensive, or reactive.

Organisations that avoid these confrontations pay a higher price — in prolonged disruption, talent attrition, and cultural erosion. I ensure they don’t have to.

Family Business: Multi-Generational Handover

Again, this year brought engagements involving family business succession — where leadership transition and business expansion intersect with family dynamics, founder identity, and generational expectations.

The presenting problem is usually ‘succession planning.’ The actual problem is everything succession planning touches: founder readiness to let go, successor capability and motivation, team loyalty dynamics, knowledge transfer, and the unspoken question nobody wants to ask — what if the successor isn’t suited for this?
